"Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent." - Victor Hugo

Program

Every year, after a strict selection, a limited number of candidates are enrolled.

The education lasts four years, divided into eight school semesters.

The curriculum includes around 3500 hours, and the lectures consist of theoretical lectures, didactical analysis of a candidate and practical lectures performed under supervision.

In the course of their education, candidates master the knowledge and skills necessary to apply music therapy techniques in children and adults, individually or in groups.

The backbone of the curriculum are analytical music listening – guided fantasies method (1996) and integrative music therapy (2001), both created by Ranka Radulović, MD PhD.

The lectures are conducted in small groups, adapted to subjective and objective capacities of the attendants and considering the fact that they are employed elsewhere during their education.

The curriculum has been created so that its attendants acquire basic knowledge and special skills in music therapy and all candidates study according to the same curriculum, regardless of their previous education/profession.

Music therapy as a profession

In our country the status of a music therapist is not regulated legally. Together with the European Music Therapy Confederation, the Association of Music Therapists of Serbia suggests guidelines, acting in that sense in permanent communication with the representatives of authorities.

The profession of a music therapist should be recognized within the Law on Health Care, or by a special Law, as an associate medical profession.

It belongs to the domain of official, and not traditional medicine.

Due to the aforementioned circumstances, the requirement for the enrollment of candidates is that they have completed studies at the faculty. Music therapists who have graduated in this way can struggle for their status in their existing positions until the profession is recognized by law as such.

The work of a music therapist in our country has so far been regulated by the Articles of Association of the Association of Music Therapists of Serbia, the Rulebook on Music Therapy Activity of the Association of Music Therapists of Serbia, the Rulebook on Four-Year Education in Music Therapy of the Association of Music Therapists of Serbia and the code of ethics of the Association of Music Therapists of Serbia.
